Enagás renovable strengthens its Commitment to Renewable Hydrogen at Connecting hydrogen europe 2025

20 de June de 2025

Enagás Renovable took part in Connecting Hydrogen Europe 2025, one of the most important forums for the hydrogen sector in Europe, held at IFEMA (Madrid) on 18–19 June.

During the event, Enagás Renovable reaffirmed its position as a key player in the energy transition towards a sustainable model fully integrated into the European market, showcasing its strategic green hydrogen production projects.

The Enagás Renovable team presented progress across its various initiatives. Attendees were also able to explore the Catalina project—considered one of the largest renewable hydrogen projects on the Iberian Peninsula—through virtual reality and a scale model. The project stands out for its location in Aragón and the combination of high-capacity solar and wind resources.

One of the event highlights was the participation of Antón Martínez Rodríguez, CEO of Enagás Renovable, in the executive panel “Iberia Leading European Hydrogen Market – From Project Development to Export Leadership.” In his remarks, he emphasized that Spain offers a unique combination of competitive advantages: abundant renewable resources, available land and water, and strategic industrial hubs.

Martínez also noted that, despite regulatory and market challenges that have slowed the sector’s growth, Spain is moving forward decisively thanks to a national strategy aligned with European objectives and strong ambition backed by public and private investment. As a result of this momentum, concrete actions are already taking shape, such as the Hydrogen Valleys, which turn this strategic vision into real projects.

The event also highlighted the need to continue developing the national hydrogen backbone and the H2Med corridor—essential infrastructure to connect production areas with consumption and export hubs across Europe.

In parallel, Mónica Sánchez Delgado, Head of Hydrogen Projects at Enagás Renovable, and Cristina del Pozo, Vice President PRX Investment Spain at CIP ETF, delivered a joint keynote to present the Catalina project and discuss its role in decarbonising industry in southern Europe.

Connecting Hydrogen Europe continues to consolidate its role as a key platform to promote hydrogen as an essential energy vector in the transition to a decarbonised energy model.

Also in parallel, Antonio Illescas, Director of Business Development and Biogas Operations, took part in the panel “Driving European Biomethane Market to Speed – What Opportunities and Challenges Lie Ahead for Further Growth?” at the Sustainable Fuels Europe Summit 2025—an important forum to discuss the role of biomethane in the European energy mix.

The month of June has been marked by Enagás Renovable’s active participation in strategic events across the energy sector, reinforcing its commitment to advancing renewable solutions such as green hydrogen and biomethane, and raising awareness of its role in the European energy transition.
