SHYNE is Formalized as an Association to Drive Renewable Hydrogen in Spain

26 de February de 2025

At Enagás Renovable, we have actively participated in the recent formalization of SHYNE (Spanish Hydrogen Network) as an association, a key step in leading the development of renewable hydrogen-based projects in our country. This association, promoted by seven major companies and more than 20 affiliates, has solidified its commitment to the energy transition.

We have worked to strengthen coordination across sectors and contribute to infrastructure that supports the growing demand for renewable hydrogen, further enhancing Spain’s position as a leader in this technology. During the event, which we attended, key challenges and opportunities related to renewable hydrogen were addressed, highlighting its importance as a key energy vector in the transition to a decarbonized economy.

The event featured prominent institutional representation: Joan Groizard, Secretary of State for Energy (who closed the event); José Moisés, Director-General of CDTI (Center for the Development of Industrial Technology); José Manuel Prieto, Deputy Director-General for Industrial Quality and Safety; and José Manuel Naharro, Technical Director of the Energy Foundation of the Community of Madrid.

The roundtable discussions, moderated by journalist Marta Reyero, featured Luis Iglesias, our Director of Hydrogen Business Development and Operations, alongside representatives from companies such as Alsa, Bosch, Enagás, Navantia Seanergies, Repsol, and Talgo. Topics crucial to the sector were debated, including the need for regulatory security, the creation of a trunk hydrogen transport network, and public-private collaboration as a driver of development.

At Enagás Renovable, we emphasized the relevance of initiatives like SHYNE to bring concrete projects to life and contribute to the decarbonization of sectors such as heavy industry and transportation. We also highlighted the positive impact renewable hydrogen can have on emissions reduction and the creation of quality jobs.

This constitution marks a milestone in establishing renewable hydrogen as a future energy solution. We will continue working through SHYNE and in collaboration with all involved stakeholders to make this national project a reality and move forward toward Spain and Europe’s climate goals.
