24 de July de 2024

This Monday, Women in a Legal World (WLW), the association aimed at promoting and highlighting female talent and leadership in the legal sector, inaugurated the first Subcommittee on Biomethane, Hydrogen, and E-fuels within its Energy Commission. The event, held at KPMG’s headquarters in Madrid, brought together more than 50 people and gathered prominent professionals from the renewable gases sector.

The objective of this Subcommittee is to inform WLW members and other active agents in the renewable energy sector about the existence and utilities of these new energy vectors, which are renewable gases and alternative fuels. This new subcommittee is led by Alicia Juristo, Director of the Legal Advisory of Enagás Renovable, and Clara Alcaraz, Partner of Regulatory, Administrative, and Competition at KMPG Abogados. At the inauguration, Alicia Juristo expressed: “We are very excited about the creation of the first Subcommittee on Biomethane, Hydrogen, and E-fuels within the Energy Commission of Women in a Legal World. We appreciate the support of our collaborators and trust that this joint effort will contribute to greater development and acceptance of these innovative technologies.”

Women in a Legal World is a non-profit association that was founded approximately five years ago with the goal of promoting and giving visibility to female talent in the legal sector. It is composed of more than 800 professional women from the legal sector, with the mission of working so that more women join debate tables, media outlets, business school faculties, professorships, and boardrooms. In short, to ensure that more women reach executive positions.

The launch event included a roundtable titled “Renewable Gases: New Regulations, Challenges, and Opportunities,” moderated by Clara Alcaraz. The roundtable brought together prominent experts in the sector who discussed current challenges and future opportunities for renewable gases and alternative fuels. Among the participants were:

  • Milagros Avedillo, Deputy Director of Natural Gas at CNMC (National Commission on Markets and Competition)
  • Maribel Rodríguez Olmo, Hydrogen Business Development Manager at Repsol
  • Luis Iglesias, Director of Operations and Business Development for Hydrogen at Enagás Renovable
  • Jose Luis Gil, General Director of Renewable Gases at Naturgy

During the debate, key topics such as the challenges faced by the main players in the sector and the current state of regulation, especially following the recent approval of the new gas package by the European Union (EU), were addressed. During his speech, Luis Iglesias not only highlighted the relevance of renewable gases and alternative fuels in the transition to a sustainable energy future but also emphasized the importance of having a platform of this nature to share knowledge and valuable experiences for the entire sector.
